Upgrading Facility Lighting
In 2018, the JBS Food Canada team began a project to replace more than 780 lights throughout the Brooks facility with LED fixtures. While all lights previously utilized 400 watt bulbs, the new 150 watt LED bulbs have resulted in energy savings of more than 1,730,100 kWh – or $86,000 annually. As an average Canadian household utilizes about 11,879 kWh per year, the energy savings generated from this project equal the usage of approximately 145 homes.
This upgrade brings the JBS Food Canada team closer to their 2020 Environmental Sustainability goal to reduce energy consumption by 4 percent per head of cattle.
